Giving Back by Reading stories for Kids

Updated: Apr 6, 2020

Well, here we are. 2020 is going to be remembered as the year of COVID-19. How bad it will get, how many we will lose is still unknown.

I'm currently practicing social distancing in my home state of Connecticut. Pretty much everything has shut down; businesses, entertainment, everything.

Since I am a voice-over actor and narrator, my business is still going. I have several audiobooks I'm working on now, and a few other projects. But it's definitely slowed down.

And then, a friend posted a story on Facebook about an actor who was reading children's stories so that parents would get a break from taking care of their kids.

And this friend suggested I do something like that. He specifically requested I read an old favorite of his, Robert the Rose Horse.

So I did. And then I decided hey, I have time. I have expertise (in addition to being a voice-over actor I'm also a videographer/video producer).

And this is the result! A YouTube channel called "Storytime with Will" in which I read a different story for kids (and kids at heart) every night.

So hey, if you have kids, or just need a comforting voice reading a familiar (or not so familiar) story, check it out!

I think during this time we all need to think about the community we are a part of. Yeah, we're home, separated from everyone. But through this great thing called the internet we can still stay connected. And we can still help others get through this difficult time.

We're all in this together, and we will get through it. Until then, stay safe, stay at home, stay healthy!
