I got a call from a producer a few weeks ago asking if I could be his DP for a video shoot in Norwell, MA (which is about 3 hours away from me).
As we began talking through what was needed, he told me it was footage to be used in a NASCAR race. That race is the Clean Harbors 200, and it airs October 17th at 4pm EDT on Fox.
Clean Harbors is North America’s leading COVID-19 decontamination company. The footage we shot was an opening message of the race from the Clean Harbors CEO welcoming everyone and asking the drivers to start their engines.
In talking about what would be needed, and looking at what had been done by others for similar use, we ended up deciding to utilize a static camera shot on a tripod, a drone shot and other stylistic shots utilizing a gimbal.
I have the tripod and gimbal, but I reached out to my buddy Rui at DronerCT to provide the drone shots.
It was a windy day, but we were able to get enough calm to get the drone in the air, and the footage looked awesome!
We took lots of footage, not knowing exactly how much editing the client wanted to do, so we'll see what ended up being used.
It was a fun shoot, and great to be out working on a beautiful day! It will be exciting to see our work end up on TV in front of a national audience.
UPDATE:
Here's the broadcast video of what we shot! My framing, per the producer, had framed in the building sign, so they zoomed in quite a bit. But we had shot in 4K so there was room to do so. They even used a few of the extra shots we did (though not the drone, which I'm bummed about, Rui's shot was superb.) Still, all in all, pretty cool!
As always, if you need any video production or post work, contact me using the contact form on my website. I'd love to see how I can make your production come to life.
